Taiwan benchmark Taiex rises to record intraday high as tech stocks advance

Taiwan’s benchmark Taiex index surged to a fresh record intraday high on Tuesday, climbing to 48,601.53 as a wave of momentum swept through the technology sector. This latest peak comes roughly three months after the index last touched a record high in June, fueled largely by positive ripples from Wall Street where investors reacted enthusiastically to early successes involving Meta’s AI agents.

The rally was spearheaded by the island’s biggest heavyweights in the semiconductor space. MediaTek saw a significant jump of nearly eight percent, while Delta Electronics climbed more than two percent and TSMC edged up slightly. These three firms represent some of the largest companies by market capitalization on the index, illustrating how heavily the local market relies on the ongoing artificial intelligence boom.

This surge underscores Taiwan’s indispensable role in the global electronics ecosystem. Because the country produces over ninety percent of the world’s most advanced semiconductor chips, its equity market is overwhelmingly dominated by tech stocks. In fact, recent data suggests that Taiwan has already surpassed Canada to become the sixth largest stock market globally, reflecting deep international confidence in its hardware supply chain.

As celebrations over the new record continue, traders are now shifting their focus toward upcoming economic indicators. Market participants are closely awaiting August export order figures expected later today, with analysts predicting resilience in these numbers as evidence of sustained global demand for AI infrastructure and components.
